FAQ

+ What is Eyetem and how does it work?

Eyetem provides a platform and an experience for anybody to share information about a variety of events in their community, and in some cases, receive valuable Kudos when their information improves the community. Eyetem works by connecting community members who may have helpful knowledge with each other and with organizations who may need vital information about local events.

+ Why should I use Eyetem?

Not only can you help out your community and make it safer by sharing your knowledge, but you can also receive valuable Kudos that can be privately redeemed at Amazon, MasterCard, and more.

+ Give me a concrete example of an event and information that I could provide?

Unfortunately, hit and run accidents regularly happen when a car collides with a pedestrian, bicyclist or another vehicle - sometimes resulting in severe injuries to innocent community members and even death. By associating this type of incident with a location and time of occurence on a map, Eyetem users may recall that they were either present during the time of the incident or that they have some other knowledge of the incident. Providing this type of information can help authorities solve crimes, assist insurance companies with recouping losses, and providing peace of mind to individuals, their families, and communities.

+ How can I keep my conversations with others private in Eyetem?

If you are having a public discussion about an event in the Eyetem app but want to share certain details privately with another user, you have the option to take a conversation private. This allows two parties to have a private conversation that is protected by end-to-end encryption over an anonymity network.* What does this mean? It means that nobody else (including us) can determine your identity when communications occur over the anonymity network.

+ What is a Kudo?

A Kudo is a cryptocurrency payment in the form of Bitcoin that you receive when you improve your community. There is no limit to the number of Kudos you receive or the amount. Only public agencies that satisfy Eyetem’s strict standards can send valuable Kudos electronically to Eyetem users. These public agencies are responsible for allocating a Kudo amount for an event and dispersing the Kudos to eligible recipients.

+ Can I use a Bitcoin wallet with Eyetem if I already have one?

Eyetem provides the ability to enter your Bitcoin wallet key into the application so that you can sync your wallet and receive Kudos.

+ How can I determine whether information is from someone with first-hand knowledge of the event?

Your information will be judged as being more useful if you were close in proximity to a physical location when the event occurred. Eyetem provides proximity indicators on each public discussion message that indicate whether you were near an event when it happened.

+ Can I create an event?

Yes, creating events is free. You can create an event, but the amount of time that the event stays available for others to see is limited.

+ Are my interactions with Eyetem completely anonymous?

All users of Eyetem apps are assigned anonymous user handles. GPS coordinates of your phone are used by the Eyetem app but are never stored on Eyetem's cloud. Bitcoin is used to compensate individuals for information. Users of the Eyetem Android app have the option to route all network interactions with the Eyetem servers over the Onion Router (TOR) network. This provides a significant degree of anonymity to the users of the app.

*Currently only available on the Eyetem app for Android.
